Palm Mar - Into the Valley

Peaceful and Divine Palm Mar

If your investment property priorities are seclusion, tranquillity and great views, Palm Mar is the place for you. Set in a natural valley between the Malpais de Rasca nature reserve and Guaza mountain, it is protected from any extremes of weather and noise but is conveniently placed for the south airport, 15 minutes away or the busier resort of Los Cristianos, 15 minutes away.

Palm Mar began to take shape in the 1980’s and was always intended to be a relaxed resort for those who choose to settle in Tenerife. Away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist resorts it offers a settled community uninterrupted by the constant change over of holiday makers.

Many of the properties are off plan developments, allowing the buyer the chance to pay a smaller overall price, in instalments with a big profit potential. One fine example of this ever growing means of buying, is the Grupo los Menceyes, named after the original Guanche inhabitants of the island. They were a proud race, and a similar pride can be felt by new owners who can see their dream grow in front of their eyes, complete with modern fixtures and fittings.

The nature reserve of Malpais de Rasca, is a wild spread of volcanic rocks that stretch out along the coast to the Rasca lighthouse. Ramblers love to follow the trail and explore the natural sea water rock pools. On the other side of the valley, Guaza Mountain stands guard 428 metres high and with weathered markings that would inspire any artist. Walkers love to take the old farming paths up and over the mountain into Los Cristianos but most dwellers of Palm Mar are just pleased to have the huge ridge as a natural protection from the winds. In both cases, nature has made sure that further building can’t intrude into the valley.

Nature has one more big blessing to offer those who move to Palm Mar – the sea views. All the developments in the resort are built progressively into the hillside, ensuring a great view of the Atlantic. A new promenade with seating areas, runs alongside the beach. At the moment the beach is still rugged and unspoilt but plans are under way to enlarge it with imported sand and salt water pools. A small discreet port will also be added to give mooring facilities and allow a taxi boat to ferry people to Los Cristianos. The beach, Playa Arenita, is already being enjoyed by bathers and swimmers and the rocks that jut out at various points are popular fishing stands. For those wanting to get in amongst nature's bounty, it’s a perfect place to snorkel and scuba.

A community spirit is emerging in Palm Mar and a small selection of bars and restaurants at Edificio Flamingo offers a chance to socialise and they will soon be joined by the small commercial centre just opposite. Palm tree lined avenues give a shady respite to this natural sun trap and encourage the laid back atmosphere.

If you want to indulge in exercise, there are first class golf courses nearby to help you raise your game but most people are content to enjoy the luxury and serenity that their new homes offer them.
