Cruelty to Cats in Santa Cruz

According to Diario de Avisos, in an article entitled The Cat Sandwich, residents of a street in Santa Cruz alerted the police when they began to suspect that the local nutter had bricked up a mother cat and her three kittens in a building wall.

One of the neighbour noticed some repairs to the wall and at first put it down to someone doing his bit to fill in holes and keep the building in good shape. It was only when a kindly woman who comes to feed the local ferals heard some pitiful scratching and mewling that they began to suspect what had really happened.

Eventually a neighbour called the police who first tried to contact the owner of the privately owned apartment to which the wall belonged. Not being able to track down the owner, the police took matters into their own hands and broke a small gap into the wall through which the mother cat and three kittens were rescued. It is suspected that other cats may not have been so lucky and there may be several dead bodies still within the wall space.

The mother cat and her kittens were taken into care by Valle Colino Albergue Comercal animal shelter where hopefully they will be found new homes.

Honestly, words fail me, except to say well done to the police for going ahead and breaking the wall to save the cats inside. No doubt, when he or she hears about it the owner of the apartment will have something to say about that.

I suspect that the neighbours in the area know very well who the culprit is but they said nothing to the police. I hope that they kept schtum because they have their own plans for the monster.
