Many holiday makers still think of Tenerife as sun, sand and sangria with exciting nightlife and a few tours thrown in for good measure.
Of course, Tenerife is all that, but it also so much more. Those who choose to break away from the tourist resorts that hug the coastline are rarely disappointed. Tucked away in villages and pueblos are small holiday cottages and guesthouses, ideal for really getting away from it all.
One good example is the charming La Casita Blanca which is in Tamaide, near to San Miguel. This two hundred year old cottage is made in the traditional way of Canarian canto stone which helps keep it cool in the hot summer days. It has two bedrooms, sleeping three altogether.
The cottage has been refurbished to a high standard inside and out and the garden area boasts both a pool and a hot tub. From there you can look towards San Miguel or out towards the coast and over the sea.
Prices for holiday accommodation in rural properties tend to be reasonable and La Casita Blanca is a good case in point:
- Outside of the summer and Christmas peak season a couple will pay £250 per week, with 3 people paying £300.
- July 1st to end of August and December 20th through to the 2nd of January are peak season and the cost then would be £300 per week for a couple and £375 per week for 3 people.
La Casita Blanca has a relaxing, tranquil atmosphere. It is the perfect hideaway for couples looking for a bit of quality time away from work and everyday stress but not so suitable for families with young children.

We are looking to stay in the south of the island after returning froma cruise.There will only be 2 of us.I note the villa is £250 for a week what would be the cost for 9 nights? 8-17 November 2010 Do you have a minimum lengh of stay if we choose to stay in the north for the first few nights

My wife and I have booked a week in Tenerife from 24/12/10- 31/12/10 and are looking for selfcatering accommodation, with basic facilities, including blankets/ sheets and cooking. We will not have a car, so looking for something near to shops, or at least a bus route from Tenerife South airport.
